Test Time Configuration

TestTrick provides flexible test time configuration options that allow you to control how much time candidates receive—either for the entire test or per individual question.

Time settings are configured in Step 1 of Test Creation.

Test Time Configuration Options

You can choose one of two time-setting methods for a test:

Option 1: Set Overall Test Time

• When Overall Test Time is enabled:
  • A single time limit is set for the entire test.
  • This time applies across all questions.
  • There is no separate time field available for individual questions.

Candidate Experience

• Candidates can manage their time freely.
• They may spend more time on some questions and less on others, as long as the total test time is not exceeded.

Option 2: Set Time Per Question

• If Overall Test Time is unchecked:
  • Each question will require a specific time limit.
  • A time field appears while creating or editing each question.
  • The total test time is automatically calculated based on the sum of all question times.

Important Validation

• If any question does not have a time set, you will see the error message:

  “Please select valid time for all test questions.”

• This message appears when you try to save or update the test without defining time for all questions.

Switching Between Time Modes

From Overall Test Time → Question Time

• If you initially set an overall test time and later disable it:
  • You must edit each question to add a time limit.
  • Until all questions have valid time values, the test cannot be saved.

From Question Time → Overall Test Time → Question Time

• If you:
  1. Set time per question
  2. Switch to overall test time
  3. Switch back to question time
• The previously set question times are preserved.
• You do not need to re-enter time for each question again.
